Day 10 (continued)

Alright, so I have a bit of free time now that we're back at the hotel. Rico and I travelled downtown to be with the US fanbase to support the team against Italy in a near do-or-die match that may determine whether or not we move on to the next round. We were able to catch the end of the previous match, but on the way, we ran into the masses:

It was literally body-to-body, and trying to move through the crowd was nearly impossible, except that I'm a big guy and people tend to move when I run into them. Well, we finally made it to the US supporters meeting point, but it was full. We stayed for a bit, and it cleared out at halftime of the match preceeding the US match, so we stepped in to watch the second half. After that, we decided to head over to the "Fanfest". Each host city has a fenced-off area downtown with a HUGE TV screen that is open (almost) to the public. I decided to drag Rico along down that way to partake in the festivities with a likely pro-US crowd. However, I think everyone else had the same idea. While on our way to the fanfest, we ran into two Elvises...or is that Elvi?:

I took this picture to hopefully show the front of one of the funniest t-shirts that I've seen while I've been here, but the "pose" of Elvis made me wonder whether he's hiding the REAL Elvis' location down there...

Well, here's the back of the shirt anyway:

Yeah, that's right sportsfans...it's the David Hasselhoff fanclub. The front of the shirt says "Ich (heart) David Hasselhoff" with a picture of the icon himself. In case you didn't already know, DH is a huge star here in Germany and has many hit records...that's right, for SINGING of all things. Crazy Germans!

Finally, on the way back to the car, we ran into this guy:

I guess it takes all kinds (says the guy with the mohawk)!

It was a pretty wild and crazy atmosphere downtown, and since the fanfest was packed and no one was allowed in, we came back to the sportsbar here at the hotel. It was a nice and relaxing evening, but I wish our team had pulled out the victory. Well, one more game for the US, and I hope it puts them into the next round. Tomorrow, we're heading back near the apartment then onto Leipzig to watch my favorite player: Thierry Henry (France).

Cheers,
Rocco

So, I guess now the USA gets to play the Rheas of Ghana to continue World Cup play.

That's right, USA needs to beat Ghana Rheas in order to stay alive.
