20 JUN - Cheaters Game (Day 13)
Today we traipsed down to Hannover from Bendestorf for the Poland v Costa Rica game.
We arrived in Hannover with no problems. I know I was tempting the fates with this one but I just couldn't help myself.

90% of the crowd was Polish and this isn't some kind of joke.

They had this huge flag that they would pass up the stands and then back down. Going up the stands was a lot easier than coming back down the stands.

I had to get a photo of the only Costa Rica fans in our area. They didn't have any problems supporting their team though.

I question the intelligence of opening a flare in the middle of a crowd just because your team scored a goal. One, you can't hold it in your hands no matter what they do in the movies. Two, they last for quite a while. Three, as it burns you have to live with the stench. Four, is it really worth being kicked out of anymore World Cup matches?

I thought Zacheus would like this handbag.

Poland beat Costa Rica 2 to 1. Poland had an interesting style of play. When things weren't going their way, they would get mad and instead of increasing their level of play they would just cheat more. You would have thought that this was the Olympic 10m board diving medal round as much as both of these teams take dives. I think Rocco said it best, "Cheaters may never win but they might tie."
We left the match about 5 minutes early to avoid any stupid crowd scenes. The atmosphere of the game wasn't the greatest. There were several times that we saw the police (not just stadium security) makin their way into the crowds.
You know your national team has a lot of support when the local police horses are painting themselves for the matches. I gotta wonder how this horse indicated to his rider that he wanted a German flag. He could be one of the Spanish horses for all I know.

After the match, we drove back to Bendestorf for a barbecue with our friends. It was a really nice night. It was a cool and there was PLENTY of good food. Lars works at an international foods company so he was able to bring Mexican food for dinner. I had a hankerin' and I was grateful to him.

I like the handbag, making think about how I want to "dress" mine up. Maybe we will even be on TV if I am creative enough! I have a handbag like that but it's a Coach so I don't know if I want to do something too drastic...you know how I like my handbags.
