03 JUL - Hansel/Gretel played by Rocco/Tah Dah (Day 26)
Today we feature America's newest stars. You've heard of Hanks and Ryan, Gere and Roberts. We now present to you Rocco and Tah Dah. In today's feature, this dynamic duo will play the roles of Hansel and Gretel. Directed by the brilliant but unstable Knuckles, the story has been set in small town Indiana. Instead of being lost in a forest, they are lost in a corn field and the have been leaving a trail of marshmallows to help find their way back.
That doesn't sound too bad for the beginning of a story. There should probably be some terrible monster in the earth that chases them. Oh yeah, what story wouldn't be complete without the main characters dying? I should do a treatment on this. Anyway, today we did go through the Black Forest and then on to a town called Chiemsee (kee-em-zay).
There are some beautiful views from the tops of the hills in the Black Forest. We were following the Black Forest Crest Road. Since I am afraid of heights and I was driving, it wasn't a good thing for me to try to enjoy the scenery. We did pull-over at a nice way point to snatch some shots of the scenery. It was a sunny but steamy day which you can see from this photo.

We saw this little place up the hill from our waypoint. We couldn't see a way up to it. I think it was brought in by helicopter and it was just for show.

Roads in germany have letters to indicate the type of road that it is. A is for the autobahn. There are B roads. Well, as we were driving through the Black Forest today, we were on an L road. We decided that it meant LOST!

As we were driving along today, we also saw this uniquely named restaurant. There were definitely some pimped out cars in front of the place.

I think we were definitely in the middle of the Black Forest today. We stopped at a little village to type in the address of the hotel where we are staying. It turns out that we were a lot farther from Chiemsee than we thought. It was about 17:00 and we had a 4.5 hour drive. Unfortunately, the lady was only going to be at the front desk until about 21:30. I tried to make up some time on the autobahn.
Today I saw my first real mountains; ones with snow on the top and everything. We were near the Austian border when we saw these. Rocco really caught a couple nice shots today.

I thought that I had actually made up some time until we started getting closer to the hotel. We were beyond BFE. In addition, we were passing through a town about every 100 meters it seems. Seriously, we passed by 3 town signs in the length of a quarter mile. We decided that the neighbors weren't getting along and decided to setup their own little towns. The GPS at point wasn't very helpful. We were in the middle of these woods on a hill and it announced that we had reached our destination. It was a bit surprising. We just kept driving though. We were going to work our way through it. We couldn't believe how far out we were. I told Rocco that if the GPS told me to turn on a road (read cow path) that I was going to turn around and drive back to Munich.
We did finally reach our destination. It turns out that we were in a little town dedicated to the local baths. I felt like we were staying at a retirement resort. I did put on some BenGay to help my aching muscles from driving all day.
Even though it was 22:30, we were able to find a little Italian restaurant in a nearby town that was open. They were only serving pizzas at that time though. I don't think that the waitress could speak German that well. She was giving us the same look that the Chinese waitress was a giving us. She was very pretty though so I won't give her too much of a hard time. We really did shutdown the restaurant though. As we were finishing, one of the wait staff was carrying the owner's 2 year old son around and they were blowing out the candles on the table. As were watching, little Giuseppe, instead of blowing on the candle, spit on it. Either way, the candle was no longer burning.
After staving off hunger, we went on back to the hotel. As I mentioned, there were a lot of old people at this hotel so I was surprised to find how HARD the beds were. I felt like I was sleeping on the floor. At least I had my industrial strength, bomb proof shades to keep the sun out of my eyes in the morning. They were a bit strange. Instead of curtains, the shades rolled down the door frame and seriously looked like bomb shelter screens.
