02 JUL - Back to Rothenburg (Day 25)
Well, today we have decided to drive to Rothenburg. That is the walled city that Rocco and I visited a couple of weeks ago. Zaccheus had expressed some interest in going there and Rocco would like Tah Dah to see it as well.
I remembered something funny from the Rhein tour last night. The city where we had the dinner was called Assmanshausen. That is absolutely hilarious. I forgot to get my picture taken with a placard of the city name.
We happened to drive by the Frankfurt FanFest area on our way out of town. Frankfurt put a HUGE TV screen in the middle of the river which could be viewed from both sides of the river. Thousands and thousands of people would line the river walks to watch matches.

We also got a really good look at the skyscraper section of downtown Frankfurt. I don't think you would ever something like this in New York. The pictures on the side of the big tower are football players from different countries.

We also saw this apartment building. It's amazing how many different flags are hanging from the balconies.

Today, we chose to drive to Rothenburg using the "back roads" meaning that we didn't take the autobahn. We had plenty of time since we could easily make it to Rothenburg in time to check-in to the hotel. The cool thing about taking the back roads is that you see more of the country side and real Germans in action.
One of the cities we went through was the strawberry capitol of Germany. You could even pick the strawberries yourself.

We saw these two simpletons standing in the middle of a field advertising some kind of fest.

I'm sure that Germany has its own hillbillies but we havn't seen too many of them so far. I suspect that there may be one or two in this house. The Trans Am in the driveway is a hint. If the car was on blocks and there was a Dale Earnhardt flag in the window, we would have known that we hit paydirt.

Rocco noticed this nice little decco on the side of a butchery. I have to wonder how much product that they have available if they have to chase down a greased pig everytime they need more sausage.

Here is a nice photo of Zaccheus in front of a forest.

It turns out that is possible to drive inside the city of Rothenburg but there was a big fest happening when we arrived so we decided to wait until later to bring the truck into the city. As we were exiting the parking lot, we saw these guys heading into the city. I think they are in a local band, The Oom Pah Lumps (not misspelled).

The first store that we went into was the big Christmas store. If I'd have known that they were going to be inside for 2 hours, I would have made arrangements to meet them at the sword store. Honestly, who can't spend hours looking at dangerous sharp objects.
After shopping, we headed back to the hotel for a little while and then we went to a very nice restaurant just around the corner. The menu was a little limited but the conversation wasn't. We discussed how animal sounds are different in different languages. For example, phonetically, in American, a dog says "woof woof". In German, a dog says "vow vow". In addition, car sounds are different. In German, a car honking is "hoop hoop" which to me sounds like Rocco playing a tuba in the shower. To top it all, Zaccheus explained that her eyebrows were bruised because she fell asleep with her hands across her face while she we wearing her carpal tunnel hand braces.
After dinner, we walked around town a bit and took some very nice pictures. Here is a picture of Rothenburg from the west garden. You can see most of the city from here.

We came across this poor chap. He was just kind of hanging out. We gave him a drink of water and a bit of a candy bar and went about our way.

I hope that the doors in this place are well marked.

Just in front of that building, was this Smart car. We had Zaccheus stand in front in order to give you an idea of the size of this car.

Rocco thought that he was being sneaky trying to snap a shot of me dancing. I'm quite the dancer wouldn't you say?

Zaccheus also had spaghetti for dessert. It definitely looks like it. It's really just stringy ice cream with strawberry sauce.

Loved the perspective on the size of the Smart car.
I laughed until I cried at the photo and comments of the "guy just hangin' out."
Youse guys are such a hoot!
The "guy just hangin' out" was a tough picture to take because he kept letting go and falling down the wall.
Yeah, the guy hanging from the wall is even afraid of heights, some wonder that he could "hang" out long enough to take this picture! The SMART thing was their idea first and then I volunteered, I don't know if this was good idea or not, I'm sure I will hear some jokes, but it was funny. Germans call these, if I remember right (because one of my coworkers had one) an "Einkaufs Wagon" literal terms means a shopping buggy! Perhaps Hassi would tell me different, but at work it was the ongoing joke.
